Everton takeover: ‘Significant’ development as 777 strike agreement on Premier League talks

An agreement has been struck between 777 Partners and the Premier League for face-to-face talks over the Everton takeover, according to Paul Joyce.

The Times journalist reported via the paper’s website late on 27 February that the American company will now meet in person with the league as part of the “final decision-making process”, having waited since September for an answer.

Discussions in person between Richard Masters’ office and the prospective new Toffees owners are seen as a “significant” step, with the company so far having loaned around £190million to the club for day-to-day running costs since agreeing their deal with Farhad Moshiri for his 94.1% shareholding.

The most recent development from the Premier League saw them ask the Miami-based outfit for more information on the source of their funding, something which they believed had already been done.

777 Partners move closer to Everton takeover verdict with Premier League meeting?

777 and Everton have been forced to agree an extension of the deadline between them for the process to go through having already seen the previous one expire, amid no little frustration on both sides over the delay in a decision from the league.

One way or another this surely brings the club a major step closer to getting an answer on their long-pending takeover.

It perhaps begs the question as to why it has taken approaching six months for some face-to-face discussions when this must have been doable at many stages previously.

The complicated nature of 777’s make-up is said to have created challenges in assessing their suitability, which has itself been called into question regularly since their deal with Moshiri.

Whether they are right to take over or not all involved need to bring the uncertainty to an end.
