Everton: David Ornstein shares ‘chaotic’ Premier League update on charges

David Ornstein has reassured Everton and Nottingham Forest fans that the Premier League will do all they can to wrap up the profit and sustainability cases before the end of the season.

Everton and Forest have been handed charges, but concerns initially emerged that, if the verdicts are appealed, the final outcome may not emerge until after the end of the season.

Ornstein described that situation as “unwanted” and “chaotic” but assured that those at the top of the Premier League will look to resolve the matter quickly.

Writing in a Q&A for The Athletic [29 February], Ornstein shared: “I’m sure the Premier League will do everything in their power to get everything wrapped up before the final day – and at least under the new rules, the process is quicker than previously.

“But the fact it could go on beyond is not ideal and clearly that has the unwanted potential to create a chaotic unsatisfactory situation.”

Will Everton be handed another points deduction?

Suggestions of a second points deduction at Goodison Park may come true, with the next charge now set to be investigated after the appeal of their ten-point deduction saw it reduced to just six.

Simon Jordan speculated that the club may receive an even bigger punishment as a result of their second charge, comparing the situation to committing the same crime having just recently been let out of prison.

Everton and Nottingham Forest will be nervously awaiting an outcome, as well as the clubs surrounding them towards the bottom of the Premier League, as possible points deductions could decide the relegation battle.

Everton boss Sean Dyche
Sean Dyche’s Everton side have faced plenty of challenges both on and off the pitch this season.

Jeff Stelling recently admitted his frustration with the process live on talkSPORT, insisting the second charge at Goodison Park could be “shambolic” should the call on a final decision linger beyond the end of the season.
