Everton: Beto destroyed by Tim Sherwood as footage emerges v West Ham United

Tim Sherwood has slammed Beto for missing a penalty in the first half that would’ve given Everton the lead v West Ham with the game ending 3-1 in favour of the Hammers.

The Portuguese striker, who joined the Toffees in the summer for a £25.75million fee, per Sky Sports, was named in the eleven.

Sean Dyche decided to replace Dominic Calvert-Lewin who had gone 20 games without scoring a goal.

Speaking on the half-time show on Premier League’s world feed, Sherwood said (02 March, 3:58pm): “When you’re struggling you need to take chances like that. He has come in place of Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Calvert-Lewin has scored three out of the last four he’s taken. Not good enough.

Beto penalty miss costs Everton

Sherwood’s criticism of Beto for missing the penalty seems unfairly harsh considering the circumstances.

While it’s true that converting penalties is crucial, his comments fail to acknowledge the quality of Alphonse Areola’s save.

Beto placed the penalty well into the bottom left corner, a spot where it typically finds the net with a high success rate.

Areola’s ability to guess right and execute a perfectly timed stretch to make the save deserves recognition.

Penalties often come down to inches, where small margins can make a significant difference.

Beto did his part by placing the penalty accurately, but Areola’s exceptional save denied him the goal.

It’s important to recognise that even the best ones miss penalties occasionally, and it doesn’t necessarily reflect poorly on their abilities.

Sherwood’s criticism may be unwarranted in this instance, as Beto’s effort was commendable, and the save was simply outstanding.
