Everton: Don Hutchinson shares ‘huge’ Liverpool verdict after win v Nottingham Forest

Don Hutchinson has insisted Everton fans should be pleased with Liverpool beating Nottingham Forest as it has done them a huge favour in terms of the Premier League table.

Jurgen Klopp’s side looked certain to limp to a 0-0 draw at the City Ground before Darwin Nunez scored in the 99th minute to take all three points while Sean Dyche’s side lost 3-1 against West Ham.

This means Forest remain one point behind Everton rather than gaining what could prove to be a crucial point come the end of the season, despite the Toffees’ better goal difference.

Taking to X following the defeat, Hutchinson wrote: “I wouldn’t imagine Everton fans would ever want Liverpool to win, but Liverpool have done Everton a huge favour beating Forest today.”

Everton will be grateful to Liverpool after West Ham result

Liverpool taking all three points from Forest will provide some respite to Everton supporters who will still be concerned that they could be dragged into a relegation battle.

Both Forest and Luton failing to win, and missing out on crucial points due to last-minute winners, will be a massive boost to Everton after their own failure against West Ham.

Despite the final score and the ultimate frustration that comes with it, especially given the circumstances, Dyche’s team should be able to find positives in the defeat.

The form of West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola on the day proved the difference between the two goals, and the scoreline massively flatters the visitors, especially with the third goal coming as a result of Everton throwing men forward.

The performance of Beto has polarised opinions after the striker scored but also missed a penalty and several opportunities, with Sue Smith wowed by one moment he produced, while Tim Sherwood was heavily critical.

Everton’s forwards have been the biggest issue this season, with their defensive performances usually so impressive, and the West Ham defeat was yet more evidence that they need to be more clinical.

For now, though, they will take what they can get, even if it means celebrating Liverpool wins.
