Everton: Richard Keys ‘hurt’ by Toffees ‘trouble’ after what he saw at Goodison Park
Richard Keys claims it “hurts” him to see Everton in so much trouble after they were beaten by former boss David Moyes.
The host wrote on his blog (4 March) that he was “pleased” to see West Ham have success as he launched a defence of the Irons manager.
He held up the Toffees struggles as evidence for why Moyes deserves a new contract at the London Stadium, claiming that Evertonians long for how it used to be at Goodison Park under the Scot.
Keys wrote: “It hurts a little bit because I don’t like to see Everton in as much trouble as they are – but I was pleased to see West Ham record a win that lifts them back into 7th. What are they doing in East London? Why haven’t they put a contract in front of Moyes yet? He’s right you know – never have West Ham enjoyed a time like the one he is delivering. Never. What Moyes has done at the club is incredible.
“In some ways it was fitting that he made his point again at Everton. What would they give now for a time when they were finishing in the CL places and taking part in finals? Karen Brady would do well to learn a lesson from history. So would Hammers fans.”
Sean Dyche’s Everton held up as evidence to back David Moyes
Plenty of the club’s supporters would happily swap the endless chaos of the current situation on Merseyside for the Moyes-era.
At the time few could have predicted how badly the long-awaited investment that came with Farhad Moshiri’s arrival would have gone.
Sean Dyche might argue that he could produce similar returns if he wasn’t endlessly firefighting at Goodison, and has done a solid job in the circumstances all the same.
Displeasure from some over the style of play under the former Burnley boss is similar to what Moyes’ detractors take issue with at West Ham.

Given the low level of investment in this Everton side, especially relative to the huge explosion of spending elsewhere as the Premier League TV deals have grown, it is probably unrealistic to expect an embattled squad to be a free-flowing joy to watch at all times.
And Dyche can’t legislate for visiting keepers saving their best for trips to play the Toffees, or his own players failing to take chances, let alone the ever-changing number of points his side are allowed to have based on developments far away from the actual pitch.
