Everton: Paul Merson predicts result of ‘unusual’ Manchester United clash in new Toffees verdict
Everton will extend their winless run in the Premier League to 11 consecutive matches when they face Manchester United on Saturday 9 March, according to Paul Merson.
The Sky Sports pundit doesn’t believe that Sean Dyche’s side will be able to bounce back from their 3-1 defeat to West Ham at Old Trafford, predicting that they will once again struggle in front of goal and lose 2-0.
Manchester United come into Saturday’s showdown on the back of a disappointing 3-1 defeat to rivals Manchester City, but Merson expects them to claim a “comfortable” three points against the Toffees.
Writing for Sportskeeda on Thursday (7 March) he said: “This is a good time to play Manchester United if you’re Everton, but the Toffees just can’t seem to win a game at the moment!
“They’ve gone ten games without a win in the Premier League and the last time they scored more than one goal in a league game was way back in December! I’m just going to fancy Manchester United here as I can’t see the goal threat from Everton.
“The Red Devils keeping a clean sheet and getting a comfortable win is a bit unusual this season, but I can see them getting the job done at Old Trafford.”
Will Sean Dyche get the sack at Everton ahead of Manchester United clash?
Things may have improved ever so slightly off of the pitch for Everton in recent weeks after they won back four of their initial 10-point deduction on appeal, but things on the field have remained fairly dreary.
Dyche’s side seem unable to buy a win at this moment in time and have similarly struggled for goals as they have looked blunt at the top end of the pitch thanks in part to the terrible form of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Manchester United may not be in the best form themselves, but Erik ten Hag’s side have shown that they are capable of picking up points, particularly at Old Trafford this season and it won’t be an easy test for the Toffees.
Hopefully, Dyche’s side can get back to winning ways and put an end to some talk surrounding his future at Goodison Park. If not, the pressure will only continue to mount on the Englishman as this winless run continues.
