Everton: Pundit reacts as Sean Dyche goes ‘absolutely mental’ at Manchester United

Sean Dyche went “absolutely mental” on the touchline at Old Trafford after Everton went behind despite starting “so well”, according to Alan Pardew.

The ex-Premier League manager reacted live on talkSPORT, via the station’s website (9 March), after Manchester United scored against the run of play via a Bruno Fernandes penalty when James Tarkowski fouled Alejandro Garnacho.

Pardew felt that the Toffees boss must have been furious with his side giving away a “sloppy” spot kick despite starting the strongest.

Pardew said: “Sean Dyche is going absolutely mental down there about something. I’m not sure what exactly, but he’s infuriated, and he must be because his team started so well, but to give away a sloppy penalty like that and to be 1-0 down, I bet he can’t believe it.”

“It feels like there could be loads of goals in this game – it’s chances galore!”

Sean Dyche enraged as Everton shoot themselves in the foot at Old Trafford

If Dyche was angry about handing the advantage to Erik ten Hag’s struggling United side then he would have been apoplectic when Ben Godfrey managed to repeat the trick midway through the half.

The Toffees had the better of the play during the first 45 minutes at Old Trafford but the usual inability to make the most of their chances meant they had nothing to show for it.

And two moments of brainless defending from Tarkowski and Godfrey to give away a pair of pretty clear penalties put their teammates at the bottom of a mountain to climb, with only star man Jarrad Branthwaite and Jordan Pickford holding it together at the back.

Alan Pardew quote on Sean Dyche Everton Manchester United
The Everton boss was raging after going behind.

It was a half to sum up the experience of being an Everton supporter this season, as anything good, and there was plenty with Dwight McNeil looking especially sharp, comprehensively squandered through the usual combination of bad luck and self-flagellation.

There was a lot to be pleased with from the performance as a whole but Dyche would have struggled to focus on that when it was completely wasted, with the damage done and a disappointing 2-0 loss a missed opportunity against poor opponents.
