Everton: Sky Sports pundit issues new Sean Dyche transfer verdict amid Beto doubts
Sean Dyche needs to buy a better Everton striker to avoid the frustration experienced in the defeat at Old Trafford, according to Stephen Warnock.
The Toffees had 23 shots against Manchester United on 9 March but none went in as two penalties saw the home side win 2-0, and the Sky Sports pundit said at half time on the world feed coverage that it was still unclear whether Beto was good enough for the top flight.
He acknowledged there isn’t the money available at Goodison Park to upgrade but questioned how Dyche could do anything better composure in front of goal.
Asked what the manager could do about the situation Warnock said (1.29pm): “He needs a better striker. He needs better composure in front of goal, but how do you coach that? It’s very difficult. You have to buy that.
“They don’t have the money to buy it. You’re bringing in Beto, is he good enough for the Premier League? We’re still waiting to find that out.
“You’re going to Old Trafford, 11 shots on goal in that first half but only three on target. That’s not good enough.”
Manchester United defeat sees Everton profligacy punished
It is impossible to argue that Everton not being clinical in front of goal hasn’t been an issue this season, as there have been numerous games where points should have been picked up and weren’t.
Yet it is also difficult to pin that on Beto this weekend, when none of the 11 shots in the first half came from him, even if it could be argued a few attempts should have come from him.
His four goals, with just two coming in the Premier League, clearly aren’t going to the job, but having started infrequently he has shown enough in his all-round game to suggest he will be an asset at this club.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin, finally fit more often than not after two years of injury hell, has already proven he is good enough to thrive in the English top flight, but equally his four goals this term, three in the league, aren’t good enough either.

It’s hard not to reach the conclusion that it is confidence as much as anything with the constant struggle engulfing the club heaping pressure on every chance.
It’s just as well that the strikers Everton already have are probably good enough given the lack of transfer funds, but until the off-field uncertainty is cleared up players aren’t going to be operating freely.
