Everton: Gary Lineker drops two-word reaction to official Jarrad Branthwaite announcement

Gary Lineker has reacted instantly after Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite was called-up to the England senior team for the first time.

The central defender was named in Gareth Southgate’s squad for friendlies against Brazil and Belgium later this month after his form for the Toffees this season.

And reacting to the news on his personal Twitter account (14 March), Lineker said it was “richly deserved” alongside two clapping emojis.

Everton have a star on their hands in Jarrad Branthwaite

In case anyone doubted just how good Branthwaite was this season, this call up proves to everyone that he has been sensational.

Gareth Southgate is a manager who has regularly picked his favourites for his England squads, with the likes of Harry Maguire and Kalvin Phillips regularly being selected despite not playing for their club teams.

So for Branthwaite to be able to break into the squad just months before a major tournament purely on merit, he has to have been doing something right.

Everton know there is going to be a load of interest in the 21-year-old in the summer with Manchester United said to be pushing the hardest, but they’re in a fantastic position to keep him.

He signed a new contract this season and is playing regularly, so teams will need to either pay up or disappear as Sean Dyche will look to move away from relegation battles.

In other Everton news, another Goodison Park star has been named as a target for a billionaire-owned club.
