Everton: Alan Myers shares ‘drastically wrong’ relegation verdict amid Nottingham Forest update
Alan Myers believes there is something “drastically wrong” if Everton are unable to avoid relegation after Nottingham Forest received a four-point deduction on Monday (18 March).
It emerged, as per The Guardian, that Forest had learnt of their punishment for a Profit and Sustainability breach, with the points deduction taking them into the relegation zone, though they can appeal against the decision.
While the Toffees are awaiting a hearing for a second breach, having already taken a six-point hit due to a PSR breach (having initially been docked 10 before an appeal), Sean Dyche’s side sit three points above the dropzone and Myers pointed out games where he expects them to earn points and survive.
Taking to X on Monday (18 March), Myers wrote: “Despite everything, IF (I know) we win our game in hand, we are seven [points] clear of Forest.
“We have Forest, Luton, Sheffield United and Burnley. If we can’t get enough points to be more than safe, something is drastically wrong.”
Can Everton survive Premier League relegation once again?
For a third successive season, the Toffees are being threatened by the risk of playing Championship football next season, having made the great escape under Frank Lampard and Dyche in the previous two campaigns.
While it has been a confusing season for all at Goodison Park, dropping down to the second tier of English football would be hugely detrimental to the club, especially in the context of financial uncertainty and the ongoing takeover saga.
With still three points separating Everton from Luton, and now four points above Forest, Dyche and his squad will be confident that they can claim enough points in the run-in to the end of the season.
With Bournemouth, Burnley, Forest, Brentford, Luton and Sheffield United all still to play, there are multiple chances to pick up valuable victories, with a shock win over a bigger side certainly in their locker.
If the Toffees are to be handed another deduction, they will want to gather as many points as possible before the campaign ends, with some worried that any decisions could be made after the final day of the season.
In other Everton news, the Toffees have been slammed by Martin Keown on talkSPORT, with a “really toxic” verdict shared.
