Everton: ‘Big boost’ emerges at Goodison Park amid Nottingham Forest PSR punishment

Merseyside-based reporter Lewis Steele says news of Nottingham Forest being docked four points is a “big boost” for Everton.

The Guardian were among countless publications reporting on Monday that Forest’s punishment has now been locked in.

That would put a further buffer between Everton and the relegation zone, but the Toffees are also expected to face a second deduction soon.

Despite that lingering charge, Daily Mail journalist Steele posted on X [18 March]: “A big boost for Everton and Luton if Nottingham Forest are, as reported, docked four points.

“But what happened to ‘six points being the minimum but sufficient sanction required to achieve the aims of the PSR’?”

Nottingham Forest drop into Premier League relegation zone

Once this charge is confirmed in the next day or so, Forest will drop into the relegation zone on goal difference.

If Everton’s punishment is the same, they would join Forest on an identical number of points and be one below Luton Town.

However, given the Toffees were previously docked 10 points, and then six on appeal, it is unclear what this next punishment will be exactly.

As Steele points out, the Premier League previously stated that six points would be the sufficient minimum amount docked, but clearly not.

It just creates yet more uncertainty around Goodison Park, with nobody really sure when the Everton deduction announcement will arrive.

And even when it is official, there is then the whole appeal process, which will drag on until after the season concludes.

In what has been a farcical Premier League campaign, expect more twists and turns yet.
