Everton set for rare boost as Nottingham Forest development emerges, decision imminent
Everton have been struggling this season, with their form this calendar year particularly worrying for Sean Dyche.
The manager steadied the ship at one stage of the campaign to help the Toffees climb the ranks, which impressively came immediately after the 10-point deduction.
That has since been reduced to six points, but form has also taken a hit, with the Goodison Park club now in a relegation fight as the season draws to a close.
Dyche’s men occupy 16th spot in the standings, just three points outside the bottom three, and level on 25 points with 17th-placed Nottingham Forest.
But amid all their issues off the pitch, the Toffees could be handed a very rare boost very shortly, with BBC Sport reporting on Sunday (17 March) that Forest are likely to discover the result of a hearing into their Premier League profit and sustainability rules (PSR) breach this week.
The publication added that the decision could arrive on Monday (18 March).
Everton were, of course, also charged at the same time as the Nottingham club, but there have been few updates on a final outcome on their case.
Will Nottingham Forest and Everton be handed points deductions?
Forest face a possible points deduction, meaning a gap would be opened up between them and the Toffees, giving Dyche and his players some breathing space, at least until their verdict arrives.
It may even give the Merseyside outfit a confidence lift, while at the same time denting the confidence of the Nottingham Forest players.
It is extremely tight at the bottom, with 15th-placed Brentford even in trouble of dropping down to the Championship, with Thomas Frank’s side only one point above the Toffees and Forest.

But in another huge boost for those at Goodison Park, Everton have a game in hand over their relegation rivals, other than rock-bottom Sheffield United.
In other Everton news, the Toffees have been slammed by Martin Keown on talkSPORT, with a “really toxic” verdict shared.
