Everton: Barcelona identify Amadou Onana as priority transfer target in ‘Tricky’ deal
Barcelona want to sign Amadou Onana as their priority midfield target this summer but a deal is expected to be “tricky”, according to Matteo Moretto.
Writing in his ‘Daily Briefing’ on Substack (18 March), the reliable journalist reports that Barcelona want a player who fits the profile of the Belgium midfielder and he is the player they like the most.
However a deal is expected to be tricky to do with Everton likely to ask for “a lot of money”, so a summer saga looks set to develop.
“Barcelona may have asked about Mats Wieffer but the player they like the most is Amadou Onana,” he wrote.
“It’s clear that it would be a tricky deal to do, that Everton will ask for a lot of money, but that is the player they like the most. Barcelona are looking for a profile like that of Onana.”
Everton have a difficult summer transfer window ahead
The 2024 summer transfer window is going to be insanely difficult to navigate for the Toffees, because there is so much going on they can’t control.
Right now the club don’t know if they are coming or going when it comes to the 777 Partners takeover, and the Premier League table is constantly changing with asterisks because of punishments being dished out.
The club have already had six points deducted and are expecting a second deduction for a second charge, which could potentially change the entire landscape of the relegation race.

Either way though the club are going to be forced to make decisions when it comes to selling key players with Onana and Jarrad Branthwaite attracting the most attention.
It’s going to be very tough to keep the squad together even if they’re still in the Premier League such is the talent they have and the financial situation, so it’s one to keep an eye on. But Barcelona are clearly making their move for Onana.
