Everton: Jeff Stelling moots Premier League rule change on talkSPORT as financial news emerges
Everton are twiddling their thumbs right now amid their second Premier League charge for financial breaches.
That is according to talkSPORT’s Jeff Stelling, who has suggested that the competition should follow the English Football League (EFL) and have set sanctions for certain breaches.
The verdict comes after Nottingham Forest were deducted four points for financial breaches, with the Toffees having been given a six-point deduction earlier this season.
“It’s a difficult situation isn’t it?” Stelling said on talkSPORT. “Maybe it would have been just easier to do what the EFL do and have set sanctions for breaches, set numbers of points for breaches.
“So if you breach the rules by a certain amount you know exactly what the penalty is that you’re going to get, rather than have to sit and wait and twiddle your thumbs and not know, as Everton are doing again right now of course.”
Will the Premier League change the rules after the Everton and Nottingham Forest verdicts?
Everyone connected to the Goodison Park club will certainly be questioning the latest verdict from the Premier League.
Forest have only been punished with a four-point deduction, with the Toffees initially docked 10 points before it was reduced to six upon appeal.
The latter have now benefitted from the rules, with Forest dropping into the relegation zone, which has given the Toffees a better chance to avoid the dreaded drop.
But the Merseyside outfit won’t be celebrating too much, with the club having another potential points deduction hanging over their heads.
It is very tight towards the bottom of the Premier League table, although recently promoted clubs Sheffield United and Burnley do look destined to return to the Championship given their poor form.
The last relegation spot, however, is very much up in the air, with Forest now occupying that place after their points deduction.

But Luton Town and the Toffees are only just above Nuno Espirito Santo’s side as the clubs head into the final stages of the campaign.
In other Everton news, the Toffees have been slammed by Martin Keown on talkSPORT, with a “really toxic” verdict shared.
