Everton: Journalist shares why fans should be ‘worried’ amid 777 Partners Goodison takeover
Everton fans should be worried that the proposed takeover with 777 Partners is taking so long to be ratified by the Premier League, according to Dan Bardell.
The Guardian reported on its website on Friday (15 March) that a decision is set to be made on the US investment firm’s takeover in the next few days after a meeting took place with the governing body last week.
A deal was agreed for the group to buy the Toffees from owner Farhad Moshiri in September, but the league’s investigation has taken longer than anticipated.
Bardell believes the Blues can’t afford to have bad owners with the wrong intentions after the fans have been through some difficult times in recent years, with the club struggling on and off the field.
Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, the Sky Sports journalist said: “If I was an Everton fan, I would be worried as to why it’s taken so long, that doesn’t look good. If something like this is struggling to get ratified, that would make me worried.
“They need something. I guess the problem hasn’t been that the Everton owners haven’t wanted to spend money because they absolutely have done that in bucketloads. But there’s just been no strategy behind what they’ve done.
“They’ve had so many managers that they’ve just ended up with a collection of players from about six different managers and it’s taken a manager like Sean Dyche to really solidify them. He’s done a really good job this season with the restraints he’s had to work under.

“It would worry me as an Everton fan as to why is it taking so long. Have they got the money? Have they got the right intentions? They’re a fanbase that have really been through the mill in the last few years, every season wondering if they’re going to go down or not and it’s just about making it.
“They can’t afford to have bad owners with the wrong intentions coming in or owners that don’t have what they’re saying they have. It could go through, like the Newcastle case took a while to get ratified and go through.
“It’s one I think could still probably happen, but I’d definitely be worried about it as an Everton fan. But I think I’d probably worry about whatever was happening with Everton because everything seems to have gone wrong for them recently.”
Everton takeover looking unlikely for 777 Partners
It looks pretty unlikely at this moment in time that the 777 takeover will go through after it’s dragged on for so long and there have been question marks raised about the group’s suitability.
But as Bardell points out, the Saudi PIF’s takeover at Newcastle United took a while before it was ratified, suggesting that it could still be completed.
It appears as though a decision is finally set to be made, though, and that will provide everyone with some clarity on how to move forward at Goodison Park.
