Everton to push for new date for final points deduction outcome after Nottingham Forest verdict
Financial advisor Rob Wilson expects Everton and the Premier League to do all they can to conclude the second PSR case before the season ends.
Everton will find out in early April how many points they have been deducted – if any – after being charged with a second breach of the league’s financial rules.
Should the Toffees launch an appeal, that will not be finalised until a week after the final game of the season, potentially causing carnage at the bottom end of the division.
However, speaking on Sky Sports News [19 March, 9:25am], Wilson said it is likely both parties with push to reach a final decision before that if possible.
“It’s a real danger, isn’t it? When you find a situation like this, running perhaps beyond the season, it really questions the competition integrity,” he said.
“We might get to a position where we don’t know who’s been relegated. That has massive implications for club budgeting.
“The Premier League and Everton Football Club will be doing all they can to make sure that the case is resolved before the end of the season so we know exactly who has been relegated.”
Everton set to be docked further points in PSR charge number two
“Integrity” is the key word there. And quite frankly, there has been very little of it in this season’s Premier League.
The Premier League has made a total mess of the whole situation, not least on the back of docking Nottingham Forest only four points.
As a reminder, as if it were needed, Everton were deducted 10 points last year before having four reinstated upon appeal.
The biggest problem of all is that, once the dust has settled on the shambolic 2023-24 Premier League campaign, the picture may again change.
Everton may be in 18th place, two points behind the team directly above them ahead of the appeal verdict being given.

That is not fair on any team involved in the relegation battle. Luton Town, say, should be able to play for a point if that is all they need on the last day.
The fact the Premier League has taken so long to reach a decision on this second charge means there is now little room for manoeuvre once the inevitable appeal is lodged.
Let’s just hope Everton finish above the bottom three so that this does not cause any further drama in May.
