Everton: Amadou Onana will wait ‘as long as he can’ to join Barcelona this summer

Amadou Onana has prioritised joining Barcelona from Everton this summer and will wait “as long as he can” for a transfer, according to Sport.

Writing on their website (21 March), the Spanish news outlet report that the player’s representatives have already held talks with the La Liga giants.

And the Belgium international is excited about a move to the Catalan club and is willing to wait as long as possible for a deal to come to fruition, before exploring other options if that doesn’t materialise.

“Onana’s entourage already knows that the Barça sports area has a very high regard for him, hence the player has the culé project as one of the priorities in case of a change of scenery,” they wrote.

“The midfielder is excited about the possibility of wearing Barça and will wait for Barça as long as he can.

“Afterwards, if the culés do not have room for manoeuver, Amadou will begin to consider other options.”

Everton exit for Amadou Onana looks inevitable

Most people involved with the Toffees right now are expecting that the summer transfer window is going to be a busy one with big decisions needing to be made.

One of those will be to do with outgoings, with the financial situation at the club an absolute mess and the squad having some very saleable assets.

Jarrad Branthwaite is a major target for Manchester United while Onana is clearly being targeted by some of Europe’s elite also, and the chances of both players staying at the club seems impossible.

But should either player leave, or even both go, then it’s Everton who should be the ones setting the terms for a deal and it must suit them more than anyone else regardless of the player’s wishes.

If Barcelona aren’t willing to pay up what the Blues determine to be an acceptable asking price then he’ll be waiting a very long time for the move, because it simply cannot be allowed that the player is the one leading the way.
