Everton: Kieran Maguire shares whether 777 Partners will complete takeover
Kieran Maguire doesn’t believe 777 Partners will receive approval from the Premier League to complete a takeover at Everton.
Speaking on The Price of Football podcast on Thursday (21 March), the football finance expert said the Toffees won’t be owned by the US investment firm next week as the governing body is set to decide whether or not the deal will be green-lighted this week.
He added that it’s his gut feeling that the group’s takeover, which was agreed with Blues owner Farhad Moshiri in September, won’t get the go-ahead unless the league wants to give the incoming regulator a “hospital pass”.
“They won’t be owned by 777 next week,” said Maguire. “I think it’s unlikely that they will be approved to be owners in due course. That’s my gut reaction unless the Premier League want to give the regulator a hospital pass.”
777 Partners pose too many questions amid Everton takeover
It appears as though a decision will be made on 777’s proposed takeover in the coming days after the matter has dragged on for several months.
There have been plenty of questions raised about its suitability during that time as to whether the group is capable of taking the club forward.
While the fans are desperate to see the back of Moshiri after his years of mismanagement, there is very little to suggest the company is what the Toffees need right now.
It seems incredibly unlikely that the Premier League will grant the necessary approval, posing questions about what will happen next for the club.
But the fact of the matter is that it’s Moshiri’s mess and he – even if it costs him some more money – has to do whatever he can to sort it out.
