Everton: Ian Wright shocked at scenario that could play out at Goodison Park amid PSR latest

Ian Wright is amazed that a Premier League team could be relegated after the Premier League campaign finishes due to the Everton and Nottingham Forest PSR charges.

Everton have already been docked 10 points this season, which was reduced to six on appeal, while Forest were this week deducted four points.

The Toffees could be hit with a further points penalty early next month, but both they and Forest have the right to launch an appeal.

If that is the case, Everton’s appeal verdict is unlikely to be delivered until a week after the Premier League season concludes.

Speaking on the Wrighty’s House podcast [22 March, 13m 41s], former Arsenal striker Wright said: “We don’t know what’s going to happen.

“Could there be a scenario where the season finishes and then after the season someone else gets relegated, like a month later? Can you imagine?”

Everton PSR case to begin on 25 March

We have long known this is a situation that could play out given just how long the Premier League has taken with each case.

They argued that making teams submit their books earlier than ever would ensure any cases were dealt with during the campaign in question.

Unfortunately, they clearly did not take into account the right of clubs to appeal points deductions, which will almost certainly be the case here.

It means Everton, Forest, Luton Town and anyone else battling to avoid that last relegation spot will be sweating until after the season ends.

Ideally, the Toffees will pick up enough points to keep themselves above the dotted line without the need for a positive appeal.

On the basis of the past few months, though, it may well be that this second deduction proves fatal if not successfully appealed.

With a decision right around the corner, we will not have to wait much longer for any fallout.
