Everton: Premier League grant 777 Partners conditional approval for takeover

The Premier League have conditionally approved 777 Partners’ takeover of Everton, after sending a letter almost a month ago, according to Bloomberg.

The American financial outlet reported via its website on 22 March that the board has been reviewing the takeover for “several months” and is “currently minded” to approve it, subject to conditions.

It is, however, said that the conditional approval does not mean that 777 have been granted full approval for their takeover, according to one of the people familiar with the situation.

Premier League give conditional approval to 777 Partners’ Everton takeover

In the biggest development surrounding the ongoing takeover bid in months, it appears the Premier League have now granted permission to get it done, albeit subject to conditions. What those conditions are is undisclosed.

Bloomberg confirmed that representatives of both Everton and 777 declined to comment, despite having been vocal when asked for comment on separate stories previously, which may be a nod to how close the deal is.

Given the number of concerns which have emerged surrounding the group and their takeover as a result, fans will be nervous to see what this agreement means for the future of the club after months of speculation.

While it is clarified that this deal does not mean the takeover is completed, we have moved a step closer to the takeover which author Martin Calladine suggested could “destroy” Everton if approved – with the Premier League seemingly taking no heed of his warning.
