Everton: The Esk shares new rant as Premier League issue 777 Partners takeover challenge

The Esk has questioned whether 777 Partners can make the conditions issued by the Premier League to conclude their takeover of Everton in a new rant.

This comes after the Premier League granted conditional approval for the takeover, something The Esk describes as the league throwing down the gauntlet in a challenge to make 777 prove themselves.

It was also questioned what would have changed in the short term with regard to 777’s position given the previous concerns that would now allow them to meet the Premier League’s conditions.

Writing via his blog [23 March], The Esk ranted: “So, it’s crunch time. Can 777 Partners meet the conditions or not? If so, why, given the costs incurred and the significant damage Everton have suffered in recent months, have these conditions not been met?

“What has changed at 777 Partners in the very short term to suggest the conditions can now be met? The Premier League, in issuing the letter, have thrown down the gauntlet to 777 Partners. Meet our conditions otherwise, there is no approval.

“Much has changed in the last six months. Everton’s condition has deteriorated sharply and their ability to remain in business become much more questionable.

“Equally 777 Partners’ operating environment has changed. They’ve lost key staff, lost key funding partners who are actively divesting as we speak. Their ability to meet the Everton ownership conditions appears to have deteriorated significantly.

“One way or another, a decision has to be reached.”

Will 777 Partners complete their takeover of Everton?

As reported by Bloomberg, the Premier League granted conditional approval to 777 Partners ahead of the takeover, but this does not mean they have been given full approval to complete their acquisition.

The conditions surrounding the takeover approval are undisclosed as things stand, but given the group’s inability to prove their eligibility to the league in the previous months of ongoing discussions, it seems hard to believe they would suddenly be able to do so now.

Given the number of issues which have emerged surrounding the group and their takeover as a result, fans will be nervous to see what this agreement means for the future of the club after months of speculation and concerns.

As The Esk shared in the wake of the news, the condition of Everton behind the scenes and that of 777 Partners financially have both deteriorated in recent months. Whether that makes the deal less likely is unclear, but it should be a consideration.
