Everton PSR outcome now ‘inevitable’ as Nottingham Forest launch appeal against charge
Everton being deducted more points by the Premier League is an “inevitable” outcome, according to Daniel Taylor.
The Toffees’ three-day hearing against a second Profit and Sustainability breach got under way on Monday (25 March).
Later the same day, Nottingham Forest announced they are to appeal their own PSR charge, which saw them docked four points.
In an article for The Athletic [25 March], Taylor said of Everton’s ongoing second case: “The Merseyside club saw a ten-point penalty for their first PSR breach reduced to six on appeal last month.
“Another points deduction looks inevitable, threatening their position of 15th in the table amid a relegation battle that increasingly looks dependent on the outcome of the legalities.
“The Premier League has pencilled in May 24 as a backstop date for any appeal which comes after the end of the season on May 19. This date comes ahead of the league’s annual general meeting.”
Everton’s second PSR hearing officially up and running
Everton will use the double jeopardy defence as to why they do not deserve to have yet more points deducted.
The Toffees had 10 points taken away from them earlier in the campaign, reduced to six on appeal – two more than Forest have had removed.
Forest’s appeal just muddies the water further. If Everton are indeed docked more points, it is almost certain they will lodge a fresh appeal.
That will drag on until a week after the campaign, so any talk of “credibility” goes completely out of the window.

As for this Everton case being “inevitable”, well if that is the case then what is the point in this commission even hearing the defence?
In many ways, though, you get the impression that the Premier League will get their way and more points will be taken away.
For now, it is a case of awaiting an official announcement in around two weeks’ time.
