Everton: Alex Crook shares Premier League relegation verdict as Nottingham Forest news emerges

Everton may not know if they have enough points to stay up after the Premier League finishes, according to Alex Crook.

The verdict comes after Nottingham Forest launched an appeal following their four-point deduction for financial fair play breaches [Sky News, 25 March].

The Toffees, who were docked six points earlier this season for similar breaches, are awaiting the outcome of their second charge.

“There is a possibility we might not know the outcome of that appeal until after the Premier League season finishes,” Crook said on talkSPORT.

“So there is a possibility that clubs like Everton, Brentford even and Luton, who are all battling to stay up, they might see the final whistle in their final game of the season, and still not know effectively if they have got enough points to stay up, depending on the outcome of this appeal.”

Everton and other Premier League strugglers in worrying position

It really is a messy situation towards the bottom end of the Premier League table, with several clubs worrying about their future in the competition.

But this season is different to others, with clubs potentially staying up even if they finish in the bottom three.

That remarkable situation could potentially arise if points deductions are not finalised until after the last games of the campaign.

Both Everton and Nottingham Forest are involved in such deductions, with the latter’s punishment sending them into the Premier League relegation zone.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side currently sit in 18th place with 21 points, with Burnley and Sheffield United below them with 17 and 14 points respectively.

The Clarets sit 19th, with the Blades rock bottom of the standings, although they do have a game in hand over several clubs above them.

It is Luton who are in 17th place at this moment in time, with the Goodison Park club in 16th, four points from safety.
