Everton: Chris Sutton slams ‘Ridiculous’ Premier League amid points deduction news
Everton and the other relegation-threatened Premier League clubs not knowing if they are safe or not after the season ends is “ridiculous.”
That is according to Chris Sutton, who shared the verdict after Nottingham Forest lodged an appeal against their four-point deduction.
As reported by BBC Sport (26 March), the latest possible date for an appeal hearing into the cases regarding the Toffees or Forest to be concluded is 24 May, five days after the season ends.
“It’s ridiculous isn’t it?” Sutton said on The Monday Night Club on BBC Radio 5 Live (25 March). “How can teams finish the season and think they have stayed up, and then not stay up? That’s wrong. They can’t let it go on. This needs wrapping up, and wrapping up quickly.”
Everton and Nottingham Forest in chaotic Premier League situation
Worrying about relegation from the top flight is stressful enough, but the Toffees and Forest have been handed extra angst given the precarious situation with their financial breaches.
The former were docked 10 points for such breaches earlier this season, which was then reduced to six, with the latter more recently docked four.
And the Goodison Park still have another charge hanging over them, with another points deduction most certainly on the cards.
Remarkably, the appeal process can go well into the final month of the campaign, but the Premier League season will come to a close on 19 May.
On that final day, Forest will travel to relegation rivals Burnley, with the Toffees visiting title-chasing Arsenal.

That will definitely worry fans of the Goodison Park club, although importantly at this moment in time they are safe from the drop, with Forest joined by Burnley and Sheffield United in the Premier League bottom three.
