Everton takeover: 777 Partners and Farhad Moshiri action demanded or deal should be scrapped

Michael Ball has told 777 Partners to “go to hell and back” to convince the Premier League they can take over at Everton or else “step away”.

The former Toffees defender wrote on his column for the Liverpool Echo on 26 March that Farhad Moshiri must also be stronger in demanding the American company do more to get their bid over the line after months of waiting.

The delay had long-appeared to be coming from the league but after it emerged late last week that they had sent a letter to the prospective new owners indicating an intention to grant conditional approval subject to conditions it now seems 777 have so far failed to meet the terms that have essentially always been required.

Ball wrote: “Who is to blame for this delay? As Evertonians we’ve been calling out the Premier League all season but if they’re not getting the answers they need, it’s up to 777 Partners to give them what they want.

“If they’re not doing that then Farhad Moshiri needs to be stronger and say to them: ‘I own a football club, do you want this?’ If they do want it then they need to give the Premier League what they need, it’s not rocket science.

“What we keep hearing about 777 doesn’t seem positive. The reports coming out from what they have done at other football clubs doesn’t get you excited.

“If they want to become the owners of our beloved football club, they need to go to hell and back to do everything they can to please the Premier League. If they can’t then they need to step away.”

He summed up: “If the Premier League approves 777 then let’s get down to business but if not, it’s time to move on.”

Make or break time for Everton takeover after Premier League letter

Ball, just like the Everton Fan Advisory Board, are right to insist those involved in this stand off make a move one way or the other.

Given the lack of clarity from any of the current club owner, the prospective new owners, or the league authorities it is difficult to know for certain who is most responsible for the wait of more than 27 weeks since the takeover deal was agreed between Moshiri and 777.

The general indications of confidence in the takeover that have emerged from the club and the Miami-based firm in that time don’t match up to the dire reports from elsewhere of a company incapable of getting it over the line that have also come out throughout this season.

Clearly it is concerning if 777 have had nearly seven months to satisfy the league that they have the ability to successfully run the Toffees and haven’t done so, but if they haven’t then it begs the question of what they have been doing towards the process during that time.

If they and Moshiri have just been hoping for the best then that is obviously not good enough, and given an alternative bidder is said to be waiting in the wings it is surely time for 777 to meet the key requirements laid out in the Premier League’s recent letter or admit defeat and stand aside.

Whether they would actually do the latter given they have stuck it out this long while providing significant loans to the club perhaps seems unlikely, but since one of the league’s conditions is to repay MSP Sports Capital’s £158million loan within around three weeks answers shouldn’t be far away all the same.
