Everton: Phil McNulty spots ‘rare’ moment from Jordan Pickford in England draw v Belgium

Everton ace Jordan Pickford made a “rare error” as England drew 2-2 with Belgium, according to Phil McNulty.

The BBC Sport journalist noted that it was the goalkeeper’s first error to cost a goal in 60 international appearances.

The shot-stopper gave the ball away cheaply after 11 minutes on Tuesday (26 March), with Youri Tielemans slotting the ball home to put the visitors ahead.

“England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made a rare error, his first to cost a goal in 60 international appearances, when his poor clearance led to Youri Tielemans putting Belgium ahead after 11 minutes,” McNulty wrote for BBC Sport (26 March).

Everton ace Jordan Pickford must be forgiven for England error

The fact that this was Pickford’s first England error in 60 matches shows just how quality the goalkeeper has been for his country.

It was certainly a sloppy error, with the Three Lions number one accidentally picking out his Goodison Park teammate Amadou Onana in the early stages of the friendly clash at Wembley.

The midfield ace found Tielemans, who made no mistake when putting the ball past Pickford to put his nation 1-0 ahead.

Brentford star Ivan Toney then levelled from the spot, much to the relief of Pickford, although the goalkeeper was beaten again shortly after, again by Aston Villa midfielder Tielemans.

Real Madrid ace Jude Bellingham then slotted home a 95th-minute equaliser as the sides played out an entertaining draw.

Jordan Pickford has been a consistent presence for both Everton and England for years

Pickford will be disappointed with his early error between the sticks, but he should undoubtedly be quickly forgiven due to his efforts for the Three Lions over the years.
