Everton: Fabrizio Romano relays image to prove Goodison Park exit of Jayden Lienou

Jayden Lienou has quit Everton to join Manchester City, as confirmed by an image posted by Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer expert first shared news of Lienou’s imminent switch to the Etihad Stadium on his personal X account on Wednesday (27 March).

And in a follow-up message on Thursday (28 March), confirmation arrived of the full-back completing the formalities for his new club.

“Manchester City confirm deal done for 2008 born fullback Jayden Lienou as new talent for the Academy,” Romano tweeted.

Everton lose Jayden Lienou to Manchester City

Everton had high hopes for Lienou, who has caught the eye at age-grade level for both the Toffees and national side Wales.

City have clearly been keeping tabs on the youngster’s development and have now poached him in a blow for Everton.

While losing a player as young as Lienou does not hurt as much as losing a first-team regular, it could prove a massive coup for the Citizens.

Everton were pretty much powerless to stopping the defender departing. Unfortunately, you cannot just throw cash at a player at that age.

City have made a habit of poaching young players from Premier League rivals, with another Toffees academy player also previously on their list.

Without doubting Lienou’s ability, you have to wonder if this is truly the best long-term strategy for his development?

Only time will tell on that front, but Everton have lost a player that certainly looks to be on his way to the top.
