Everton: David Ornstein shares new Amadou Onana transfer update amid Arsenal links

Everton midfielder Amadou Onana is unlikely to complete a summer transfer to Arsenal this summer, despite appreciation from the Gunners, according to David Ornstein.

The Belgium midfielder has been linked with the Goodison Park exit door recently, with Bayern Munich, Barcelona and the Gunners all supposedly interested in securing his signature come the end of the season.

While The Athletic’s Ornstein has suggested Mikel Arteta’s side are keen on the Toffees star, he believes that his profile and price bracket will likely put the breaks on any move to The Emirates this summer,

Writing for The Athletic on Thursday (28 March) he said: “I’m sure there is some appreciation for Onana at Arsenal and elsewhere, but I’m not sure he fits their profile or price bracket.

“In the number 6 role, we know Arteta likes Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi (and there will be others). If it’s a No 8 they go for there will be multiple options as well. I don’t really see this one happening.”

Will Amadou Onana leave Everton for Arsenal in the summer transfer window?

It almost seems inevitable that Onana could leave Goodison Park this summer, but it now seems incredibly unlikely that the Belgian international will be heading to North London in the summer transfer window.

While a lot could change between now and the end of the season, the uncertainty around the blue half of Merseyside currently in regard to point deductions and ownership makes it hard for Sean Dyche to plan beyond the end of the current campaign.

In an ideal world, the Toffees would hold out for as big a fee as possible before selling Onana, but their financial position could force their hand and therefore a smaller than originally thought fee may be enough to tempt Dyche into parting company.

Hopefully, the midfielder will be able to play a big part in the remaining weeks of the Toffees’ survival bid, but it wouldn’t be too surprising to see him lining up in another team’s midfield when next season gets underway.
