Everton: Newcastle could reignite Amadou Onana transfer push as Sandro Tonali update emerges

Everton have been surrounded by off-the-field issues throughout the season so far at Goodison Park and that has made it incredibly hard for Sean Dyche to keep focus on the pitch.

Whether it be the Toffees’ potential point deductions for financial fair play breaches, 777 Partners’ takeover bid or even question marks over the manager’s own future, there is plenty of uncertainty on Merseyside.

Several players have already been linked with the Goodison exit door, namely Amadou Onana and Jarrad Branthwaite who are expected to have plenty of potential suitors during the summer transfer window.

Onana’s chances of a move to Arsenal have been played down in recent days and that may leave the door open for other clubs to swoop in and secure his future, namely Newcastle after the latest update at St James’ Park.

Will Everton keep Amadou Onana and Jarrad Branthwaite in the summer transfer window?

Eddie Howe’s side were understood to begin groundwork on a move for the Belgian midfielder during the January transfer window as a potential contingency plan should Joelinton depart the northeast this summer [Graeme Bailey, 20 January].

While no clarity has emerged over the Brazilian’s future, the Magpies have been hit by a new blow after the FA confirmed on Thursday (28 March) that Sando Tonali had been charged with alleged misconduct in relation to betting rules.

The Italian midfielder is already serving a 10-month ban for offences in Italy during his time with AC Milan, but his latest alleged breaches could well see his ban extended according to reports [Sky News, 28 March].

Should Tonali’s ban be extended, it will leave Howe incredibly short of midfield options at St James’ Park and that could see the Toon advance their move for Onana and begin to build on the groundwork they began in January.

How long will Sandro Tonali be banned for Newcastle United?

Everton boss Sean Dyche
Sean Dyche’s Everton side have faced plenty of challenges both on and off the pitch this season.

Newcastle won’t be the only teams looking to secure Onana’s signature from Everton this summer, with Bayern Munich and Barcelona also understood to be in the race, but it feels almost inevitable he will leave Goodison.

Hopefully, the Toffees will do all that they can to keep the Belgian on Merseysdie for another season, but if not, they have put themselves in an excellent position to earn a reasonable fee for their midfield star.
