Everton: Sean Dyche shares new Lewis Dobbin injury update ahead of Bournemouth clash
Everton manager Sean Dyche has confirmed that Lewis Dobbin is set for a spell on the sidelines having suffered a freak injury in first-team training at Finch Farm.
The 21-year-old has been a rotation option for the Toffees so far this season, particularly in the Premier League where the striker has managed to score once to help Dyche’s side salvage a point against Chelsea.
Over the international break, Dobbin twisted his ankle in training and some had expected the striker to require surgery, but the Toffees boss has confirmed his recovery is already underway without an operation.
As quoted by the Liverpool Echo (29 March) he said: “It is better news than we thought. He hurt his ankle and was very unlucky – he fell over, landed on someone’s foot and it tilted his ankle.
“We thought it might need an operation, it doesn’t, which is good news, so now it is just the timescales of getting him back.”
Who will Sean Dyche start for Everton against Bournemouth?
While it is a blow to lose Dobbin for Saturday’s (30 March) clash with Bournemouth and likely for a few more games, there are much more important players that could have been hit with injury at this stage of the season.
The Toffees have been boosted by the returns of both Idrissa Gueye and Arnaut Danjuma and the Dutchman will be more than ready to step into Dobbin’s role and give Everton some much-needed attacking depth.
Everton have been in bleak form in the Premier League recently and that has primarily been down to their lack of cutting edge in front of goal. Hopefully, Danjuma will be able to convert the chances that Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto have been missing.
With the news emerging that Dobbin doesn’t require surgery to help his recovery, there will be hope at Goodison Park that the 21-year-old will still play an important role between now and the end of the season.
