Sky Sports pundit fumes after what she saw in Everton loss v Bournemouth
Sue Smith has labelled Everton a “horror show” after a late own-goal saw them fall to a 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.
Dominic Solanke scored the opener midway through the second half before substitute Beto levelled things on 87 minutes and looked to have sealed a point.
But a miscommunication in defence saw captain Coleman score an own goal in stoppage time as the Toffees fell to defeat, and reacting live on Sky Sports (30 March, 16:50) Smith couldn’t help but hide her disappointment.
“It’s a horror show,” she said. “It’s Seamus Coleman and Neto made a mistake for Beto’s goal, and this one, there’s nothing from it. It’s just a throw in for Bournemouth.
“The delivery comes in and Coleman tries to chest it back to the goalkeeper. Jordan Pickford is nowhere near it and he just chests it into the net.
“You’ve got to feel for Seamus Coleman but it’s 2-1 to Bournemouth. Big mistake.”
Everton not helping themselves this season
After three weeks of no football for the Toffees and Sean Dyche having time to work with the players in training, this is not what should be getting delivered by the team.
This Everton team has got a lot of quality all over the pitch, but something just simply isn’t clicking for the team right now and the manager simply needs to find a way to change things and get his players performing.
The team are missing far too many chances and committing far too many critical errors individually which is costing them points week in and week out.
The team is now 12 games without a Premier League win and sit just three points outside of the relegation zone, with a second points deduction seemingly looming in the coming weeks.
It’s simply not good enough and the players and staff are letting themselves down at this stage. They must do more.
