Eddie Howe issues Kieran Trippier injury update for Newcastle clash v Everton

Eddie Howe has revealed that Kieran Trippier is in contention for Newcastle United for their game against Everton on Tuesday (2 April).

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Monday (1 April, via Chris Waugh), the Magpies boss said he was hoping to have the England international back for their match against West Ham on 30 March after he’s been struggling with a calf injury.

He added that the 33-year-old is “improving” as his side prepare to take on the Toffees and that the right-back is “desperate to be involved” at St James’ Park.

“Kieran is improving,” said Howe. “It has been a difficult injury for him. An injury to the calf, one we have to be very careful with and we’d hoped he’d be fit in and around the West Ham game but we’ll have to wait and see how he goes during this week.

“He’s desperate to be involved, he knows what’s at stake for us towards the end of the season and his qualities are obvious. We’re desperate to have him back but it has to be at the right time.”

Kieran Trippier could provide Newcastle with boost against Everton

It would certainly be a boost for Howe and Newcastle if Trippier does manage to make his return in the game against Everton.

The Magpies have been decimated by injuries in recent weeks, particularly to defensive players, with Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles being ruled out for the rest of the season.

The Englishman would provide his side with some more experience at the back and would likely take on the captaincy in the absence of Lascelles.

But it’s probably going to be touch and go as to whether the right-back lines up at St James’ Park or if he’s just able to take up a place on the bench.

Sean Dyche will be desperate to see his side put in a good performance and pick up three points after going 12 games without a win in the Premier League.
