Everton: Andy Townsend shares second Goodison Park points deduction verdict live on talkSPORT
Andy Townsend has insisted a second points deduction at Goodison Park would be tough for Everton to take and would be very difficult for the players to overcome.
The former Chelsea midfielder claimed another deduction would drain any energy the players have left, calling for clearer rules and more transparency from the Premier League.
However, he also shared his expectation that Sean Dyche could lead his team to safety once again but insisted it would be touch and go until the end of the season.
Speaking live on talkSPORT [1 April, 08:58], Townsend shared: “If they’re deducted more points, it’s going to drain any energy levels that they’ve got left, I would imagine. That would be really tough to take. Once is bad enough, twice is unheard of.
“It’s a mess all these points deductions, there should be rules and regulations in place so if people are in breach then there’s a punishment, everybody knows what it is, and it’s applied at the end of the season.
“I don’t like what we’re witnessing at the moment, it must be very difficult for the players. Can Everton get out of it? Yes, they can, but I think it’s going to be touch and go right to the wire.”
Could Everton be handed another points deduction?
Both Everton and Nottingham Forest have been given points deductions this season, with the Toffees possibly set to face a second one, while Leicester City are also facing the prospect if they are promoted into the league next season.
This has caused plenty of uncertainty towards the bottom of the Premier League table, with the likes of Luton and Brentford also caught up in it as they will not know where they stand until the deductions are finalised.
Ally McCoist recently echoed Townsend’s call for more clarity regarding the decision-making, as he questioned why some clubs are dealt with almost immediately after their charge while we are forced to wait for others.

If Forest’s four-point deduction is replicated, it will see Sean Dyche’s team go back to their initial ten points off, although it has become apparent that the hearings are taken case-by-case and therefore difficult to predict.
