Everton: Jeff Stelling shares Dominic Calvert-Lewin verdict after controversy v Bournemouth
Jeff Stelling has insisted Everton should have been awarded a penalty in the 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth when Dominic Calvert-Lewin was brought down in the box.
The incident has divided opinion with many suggesting the striker had gone to ground too easily, but replays showed there was contact and once again highlighted the inconsistency of these decisions.
The legendary sports broadcaster went on to explain that Sean Dyche’s side need some luck to go their way and they aren’t getting that as things stand.
Speaking live on talkSPORT [1 April, 06:44], Selling shared: “Everton should’ve had a penalty when Dominic Calvert-Lewin was clearly brought down inside the box.
“You need a bit of luck sometimes, don’t you? Nothing’s going for them at the moment, that’s for sure.”

Stelling is right, nothing is going for Everton right now on or off the pitch. Luck can often be a deciding factor in a tight relegation battle, and as things stand, the Toffees have had far from their fair share.
Aside from the penalty incident, and the club’s situation as a whole, Calvert-Lewin especially needs some luck to go his way. Alan Shearer advised him to continue getting in forward positions and eventually, a goal will fall to him – but that just doesn’t seem to be happening.
Dyche made a brave call by selecting him from the start against Bournemouth despite the more impressive display from Beto against Manchester United, and the Portuguese’s goal at the Vitality may have sealed Calvert-Lewin’s fate.

If anybody needs a bit of luck to fall their way, it’s him, but questions will linger about how long the boss can afford to stick with a player who hasn’t scored since October when he has Beto behind him pushing for a starting place.
