Everton: Premier League ‘D-Day’ awaits as Goodison Park losses double, key player could be sold

Journalist Lewis Steele says “Everton are at risk of another D-Day with the Premier League” after making their latest accounts public.

The Toffees reported a mammoth loss of £89.1million for the 2022-23 year, which is almost exactly double that from 12 months prior (£44.7m).

Everton have now lost £255m over the past three years, which Steele describes in an article for the Daily Mail [31 March] as “staggering”.

Steele adds that Everton are now in a position where they “could be forced to sell at least one key player this summer”.

How much debt are Everton in?

Make no mistake about it, these latest financial figures are deeply concerning for everyone connected to Everton Football Club.

To lose money at the rate the Toffees are is pretty remarkable and shows just how badly the club has been run over a number of years.

Even with the 777 Partners takeover – which is still in the balance – it is looking likely that further funds will have to be raised from somewhere, likely from a player sale.

All this is without mentioning the possibility of relegation from the Premier League. Quite where that leaves the club is not worth thinking about.

Revenue and sponsorship money has fallen drastically and the club’s debt is seemingly climbing by the day, now standing at £330.6m.

If anyone prospective owners out there wanted an example of how not to run a club, just take a close look at Everton’s latest accounts.
