Everton takeover: Telegraph journalist issues 777 Partners verdict
Telegraph journalist Chris Bascombe has delivered a verdict on the 777 Partners takeover of Everton and manager Sean Dyche after the club released their 2022/23 accounts.
The club are battling issues on and off the pitch and problems appear to be piling on with regards to finances and results.
Locked in a relegation battle for another year, the Toffees’ hopes of finishing in the top half have been dashed yet again.
Bascombe wrote on 1 April: “As the barren run has continued, Dyche’s backers have still been leaning on the repercussions of the initial Premier League judgment on Nov 16, as well as the uncertainty around the ownership, 777 Partners’ bid having the unfortunate, ironic consequence of raising red flags all over Goodison Park.
“There has undoubtedly been more anxiety on Goodison match-days given every fixture has been played amid the sense of being plunged into a relegation battle when – in other circumstances – a push towards the top half would have been the prize.
“That said, the view is undermined somewhat given Everton’s best winning sequence followed their initial points deduction.”
Chaos is everywhere at Everton
At Goodison Park, chaos reigns both on and off the pitch, creating a perfect storm of challenges for the club.
Financial turmoil, highlighted by staggering losses of £89.1million and ongoing issues with profit and sustainability regulations, underscores the off-field chaos.
This financial instability has profound implications for the club’s future, exacerbating the pressure on players, staff and management.
On the pitch, the team’s performance reflects the disarray behind the scenes.
Despite signs of progress under Sean Dyche, including fighting against point deductions for breaching financial regulations, the Toffees have struggled to secure victories and have endured a worrying slump in form.
With a lack of investment in new players and mounting pressure on the manager, the situation on Merseyside appears dire.

The club’s problems extend beyond the footballing realm, encapsulating broader issues of governance, financial management and sporting performance, creating a complex web of challenges that must be addressed urgently.
