Everton ‘could plummet’ amid 777 Partners takeover update as Rangers comparison emerges

Everton could “plummet” through the divisions like Rangers did if 777 Partnerrs’ takeover rumbles on for much longer, according to Michael Ball.

The Toffees currently sit three points above the relegation zone but could be set to face a second point deduction for breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, all while 777’s takeover continues to wait for approval.

While there is a chance that Sean Dyche’s side could still avoid the drop and any further financial issues, pundit Ball admits he’s worried that the Toffees could suffer a similar fate to his former club Rangers.

As quoted by the Liverpool Echo (2 April) he said: “At one of my old clubs Rangers it was left for the fans to pick up the pieces after they were crippled by financial problems. They had to go to court and they ended up winning the court case, but it was too late. The damage is done and you’re already relegated.

“Because of that experience and what can happen in football, I am worried about Everton. It’s not just getting a points deduction, it could get worse.

“There are a lot of levels the club could plummet and I’ve seen it with my own eyes – a huge football club losing players, losing staff, losing their identity and having to start again. And they were only able to do that because of the fanbase, who dragged them back up again.

“The Premier League are still waiting for answers from 777. If you want to buy a club then you should give them everything they need and more. But it’s just dragging on. It’s April and we still don’t know who owns the club and now it’s starting to run onto the field.”

Will Everton be relegated from the Premier League this season?

There is so much uncertainty around Goodison Park at the moment and that makes it incredibly hard to see a future in which the Toffees remain a comfortable Premier League outfit as they have been throughout their history.

Whether it be the potential point deduction or 777 Partners’ never-ending takeover, there is so much going on behind the scenes that Dyche cannot just focus on each and every upcoming game.

While administration fears seem to have been eased ever so slightly by 777 Partners’ financial support in recent months, that could become an issue if the American firms’ takeover isn’t approved as that money will then be owed.

Hopefully, some clarity will emerge over the off-the-field issues in the coming days so Dyche knows exactly what Everton need to stay up. However, the Blues boss needs to start winning games sooner rather than later.
