Everton: Izzy Christiansen slams Jarrad Branthwaite after ‘real mess’ in win v Burnley
Izzy Christiansen slammed Jarrad Branthwaite as his indecisive defending almost cost Everton a goal in the 1-0 win against Burnley at Goodison Park.
The BBC Sport pundit explained how the defender had let the ball bounce and then lost the header, allowing Lyle Foster to create a big chance for Wilson Odobert.
She shared that it had been a “mess” at the back from Sean Dyche’s team who can consider themselves lucky not to have conceded as a result of the mistakes.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live [6 March, 15:29], Christiansen explained: “It’s a real mess at the back from Everton. Firstly Branthwaite, I mean, never let the ball bounce.
“Foster runs off the line from the right-hand side as the ball bounces and has just won the header, then Odobert’s got through. Everton were really lucky not to concede there.”

Branthwaite has been the subject of so much high praise this season thanks to his impressive performances, but he came close to throwing Everton’s clean sheet away by not making the simple call to meet the ball before it bounced.
Ultimately, it was a very important three points earned by Everton and Dyche in the relegation battle thanks to a fortunate Dominic Calvert-Lewin goal as luck was clearly on the side of the Toffees at Goodison Park.
The goal on the stroke of half-time came as Burnley goalkeeper Arijanet Muric’s pass out from the back ricocheted off of Calvert-Lewin’s foot and rolled into the back of the net, getting Dyche’s side a lead to hold on to.

With that goal securing all three points at Goodison Park while Luton achieved a comeback victory against Bournemouth, the Toffees kept their relegation fight alive even with another potential points deduction looming.
