Everton: Michael Dawson baffled by ‘absolute nightmare’ in win v Burnley

Michael Dawson was left in disbelief as Dominic Calvert-Lewin capitalised on an “absolute nightmare” from Arijanet Muric as Everton scored in the 1-0 win against Burnley on Saturday (6 April).

The Toffees forward finally ended his goal drought against Newcastle United on Tuesday 2 April, claiming a 1-1 draw from the penalty spot, and he has continued his form just at the right time.

Sean Dyche’s men are at risk of relegation from the Premier League this season, but Muric handed Everton a lifeline as the shot-stopper gifted Calvert-Lewin the opener.

Speaking live via Sky Sports on Saturday (6 April, 3:48pm), Dawson said: “This could be huge because Everton have been poor.

“I said that Muric must take control of the ball but he puts the ball at risk. Calvert-Lewin gets very fortunate; the ball is hit against him and it loops up and over.

“Muric, not sure what he’s doing. It’s more luck than good judgement from Calvert-Lewin. This is how Burnley play – they put the ball at risk. Oh my God, Muric has had an absolute nightmare.

“Calvert-Lewin has been non-existent this afternoon but he doesn’t care. Two in two, one-nil to Everton.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin takes advantage of Arijanet Muric blunder v Everton

Of course, Calvert-Lewin’s goal is an extremely lucky one. But with the Toffees at risk of being relegated to the Championship, luck is exactly what Dyche needed.

The point earned against the Magpies earlier in the week appears to be an important turning point for Everton, and they will hope to claim a few more points before the season ends.

As for the Burnley goalkeeper, that will be a moment that haunts him for weeks to come, with the Clarets also battling hard to avoid relegation from the Premier League after earning promotion last season.

Vincent Kompany has made a strange decision to drop James Trafford from the starting XI, but Everton will have no complaints after Muric’s blunder helped give them the lead in an all-important match at Goodison Park.

The goalscorer finally rediscovering his form will also be extremely important if Everton are to beat the drop, as Calvert-Lewin and Beto have offered little in terms of attack for the majority of the season.
