Mike Dean reacts to Everton controversy v Burnley live on Sky Sports

Everton should have been awarded a penalty in the final moments of an all-important 1-0 victory over Burnley at Goodison Park on Saturday (6 April).

That is according to Mike Dean, who believes that, despite limited contact, Michael Oliver should have handed the Toffees a chance to secure all three points from the penalty spot after Beto was brought down in the box.

Despite not being awarded the spot-kick, Sean Dyche will be delighted to have claimed all three points against the Clarets, as Everton move one step closer to Premier League safety.

Speaking live via Sky Sports on Saturday (6 April, 4:54pm), Dean said: “There’s not a lot of contact but he has definitely flicked him [Beto] on the shin.

“There was one at Bournemouth last week that wasn’t given. For me, identical decisions are both wrong.”

Everton take one step closer to Premier League safety with victory v Burnley

While it is frustrating to see a referee miss yet another decision at Goodison Park, the overall emotion will be relief after claiming a vital victory against their relegation rivals.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin capitalised on a horrendous mistake by Arijanet Muric, blocking an attempted pass from the goalkeeper, with the ball looping back into the Burnley net.

It was certainly not a pretty win, but Dyche will be care at all, especially after Brentford, Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town all claimed points.

Everton boss Sean Dyche
Sean Dyche’s Everton side have faced plenty of challenges both on and off the pitch this season.

The relegation battle is certainly heating up, and with a second points deduction potentially heading to Merseyside, Everton will need to claim as many wins as possible in the last seven fixtures of the season.

With Forest, Brentford, Luton and Sheffield United all still to play, the Toffees will have perfect chances to take more steps closer to avoiding the dreaded drop down to the Championship, and the win against Burnley is just the start.
