Everton: ‘Terrible’ Goodison Park admission emerges with points deduction on the cards for Monday
Bryan King believes it would be “terrible” for Everton to be handed another points deduction at this stage of the Premier League season.
The ex-Goodison Park scout has called for the Toffees to show the same level of fight they displayed after their previous points deduction, with the verdict over their second profit and sustainability breach just days away.
While speaking on the Price of Football podcast (4 April), football finance expert Kieran Maguire provided a timeline on when the Toffees could expect to discover their fate.
“The second hearing has taken place, and we are anticipating a verdict published, I think, possibly Friday (5 April), but probably more likely on Monday (8 April) or Tuesday (9 April)”.
King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – believes that Sean Dyche’s side still have what it takes to survive, but doesn’t believe it will be easy.
“If they were to be hit with another points deduction then they would need to somehow put a run together like they did earlier in the season, after the first deduction,” said King.
“It would be a terrible time for them to be deducted further points, but I do think they still have a very good chance of staying in the Premier League.
“Having said that, I do think this relegation race is set to go down to the wire.”
Everton and Sean Dyche must continue to focus on their football in Premier League relegation fight
Everton’s 1-0 win over Burnley at Goodison Park on Saturday (6 April) might just go down as their biggest victory of the season.
In what was a real relegation six-pointer, the Toffees held their nerve to move four points clear of the bottom three with a game in hand.
That gives the club some breathing room in case of another points deduction, and as frustrating as this situation might be for Dyche and the players, all they can do is focus on what is in their control.

Everton still have home games against the likes of Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Sheffield United this season, and if they can pick up points in those matches they will likely do enough to stay up, regardless of the outcome of their second charge.
