Everton: Gabby Agbonlahor shares relegation verdict live on talkSPORT in Luton claim

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted both Everton and Brentford will be desperate to pick up points to separate themselves from Luton amid a tight relegation battle.

The former Aston Villa striker explained that there is no pressure on Luton to stay up like there is on Brentford and Everton in particular, and backed them to do it if the league remains tight.

He went on to claim that if, with three or four games left to go, there are only a few points separating the sides, Luton have a better chance at staying up as they can fight and battle for points.

Speaking live on talkSPORT [06:08], Agbonlahor shared: “The pressure isn’t on Luton, so you don’t want to go down to the last three games with three or four points in it because Luton can battle.

“They can fight. They’re not playing stupid football from the back and their goalkeeper isn’t kicking it off a striker into the back of the net and giving away goals like Burnley and Sheffield United.

“I think Brentford definitely need a win like you wouldn’t believe. Everton need to go and get some points as well. These teams want to get their wins soon because going down to the last three or four games, I fancy Luton.”

Relegation battle hotting up for Everton, Brentford and Luton

With the relegation battle getting more and more tense as we head towards the end of the season, every point is vital. Everton still have to play Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Luton in games which could decide the outcome.

This comes after Jamie O’Hara insisted that a club the size of Everton with their new stadium on the way cannot afford to be in back-to-back relegation battles year after year because eventually they will get bitten.

Just four points separate Everton from Luton in the relegation zone, a tally that would have been cut to just one if Sean Dyche’s team had failed to get a result against Burnley, highlighting once again the importance of that victory.

Everton boss Sean Dyche
Sean Dyche’s Everton side have faced plenty of challenges both on and off the pitch this season.

If, as Agbonlahor suggests it might, the battle goes down to the very closing stages of the season, Everton will have to hope that potential points deductions don’t hit hard enough to see them fall short of their rivals.
