Everton: Josh Wander absent from Everton v Burnley amid latest 777 Partners takeover news

Josh Wander, co-owner of 777 Partners, was absent from Goodison Park as Everton beat Burnley after the latest controversy surrounding the takeover talks.

This comes amid reports suggesting that two businessmen and Everton supporters Andy Bell and George Downing could strike a deal to waive their debts owed by the club in exchange for the Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium. [Alan Nixon, 7 April]

It was also suggested by Nixon that, should the takeover fall through, Bell and Downing could be in a position to take full control at Goodison Park in a bid to save the club.

Despite Wander’s absence, some of the group’s associates – Joshua Dreyfus and Jinshu Kumaran – were pictured in the stands watching the game, as shared on X via EvertonNewsFeed.

What is the latest news on 777 Partners’ Everton takeover?

Stories about the potential takeover at Goodison have been flying in recent weeks as talks continue to drag on, with the latest claiming the group has held further talks with the Premier League as they are still not fully satisfied.

It has been reported that the final hurdle for the group to overcome would involve paying back the main creditors to whom the club owes money – including Bell and Downing – but questions lingered over whether they had the financial ability to do so.

A long line of controversies has followed 777 since takeover talks began, ranging from several legal claims in the US to protests from fans, concerns about financial backing and controversy surrounding some of the group’s other assets.

Given the number of concerns surrounding the group, it appears Wander has plenty to deal with before the takeover can be approved – whether or not that happens – which may explain his absence from Goodison as Everton finally won.
