Everton set for yet another hearing in Premier League dispute after 2nd points deduction

Everton will still face another profit and sustainability hearing which could see them punished further, according to Simon Stone.

The BBC journalist reported via Twitter on 8 April after the announcement that the club have had another two points stripped, that in the written reasons it states there remains a further dispute with the Premier League over costs related to the new stadium.

That could still see Everton hit by another additional sanction as the same panel which sat for the recently-concluded commission hearing will decide on the matter at an unspecified point in the future.

Stone quoted from the official decision: “There remains a dispute between the Premier League and the club as to the status of certain costs that the club says are associated with its stadium construction.

“This issue, and the question of whether any additional sanction should be applied, will be resolved by the same Commission at a later date.”

Lawyer Stefan Borson noted via Twitter that the current two point sanction therefore relates to the admitted breach, with another hearing still in wait.

Everton stadium cost dispute could see more points deducted

It seems that Everton are to forever have another potential blow waiting for them somewhere down the line, with every negative development only the latest and never the last.

An appeal is already on the way over this two-point sanction the future seems to be piling up with additional hearings and further arguments to be had.

Why the panel were unable to make a ruling on the stadium costs issue, which has been lingering since the original breach, isn’t entirely clear, but seems to just be kicking that can further down the road.

It is surely impossible for any additional sanction to be applied this season given the time available, with even the Everton and Nottingham Forest appeals potentially leaving the Premier League table unresolved past the final day as it is.

So in theory Sean Dyche and his players should now know in the short term what they are dealing with for the current relegation battle, with the hope that an appeal could maybe get a point handed back.

But they will also know that there is still more bad news hanging over their heads after that, and given the reported fury from other clubs over the delayed nature of the Toffees’ original sanction (10 reduced to six on appeal) meaning the punishment applied this season and not during the previous relegation battle, extending this issue further seems bound to cause yet further unrest in that regard too.
