Everton: Andros Townsend insists Luton will celebrate survival regardless of points deductions
Former Everton ace Andros Townsend has insisted he and Luton Town don’t care whether points deductions affect the relegation battle as long as they stay up.
The winger insisted that the team would be celebrating just the same regardless of how they achieve safety, even if it is at the hands of his former club and points deductions.
It had been suggested that there might be some reserved reactions if points deductions relegate either Everton or Nottingham Forest, but Townsend admitted it won’t make a difference.
He did, however, go on to slam the Premier League and the process surrounding the points deductions and appeals amid plenty of confusion.
Speaking live on the BBC Monday Night Club [8 April], Townsend admitted: “If Luton stay up, regardless of asterisks or points deductions, we could not care less, I’m going to be honest with you. We will celebrate the same.
Chris Sutton then cut in, stating: “You’ll feel a little bit of guilt…” before Townsend interjected: “Absolutely not, Chris.”
The former Everton man then went on to explain: “For me, I think it [the appeal process] makes a mockery of the Premier League. I’m not advocating teams to get deductions or points back, but when you announce the charge, you have to be certain.”
Relegation battle hots up after Everton points deduction
The recent blow of another two-point deduction given to Everton will have inspired renewed confidence in Townsend’s Luton side who now sit just two points away from the Toffees, while they are level on points with Nottingham Forest.
Forest have also been handed a points deduction and have chosen to appeal so, much like the Toffees’ situation, they may not know the full outcome of their deduction and therefore the relegation battle until after all games have been played.
With the extra two points knocked off, Everton dropped below Brentford and into 16th place, just two points ahead of Luton in the relegation zone and Nottingham Forest who are sandwiched between the pair.

Townsend’s claim, while perhaps a bit dismissive of his former club, is entirely fair. Luton will take survival however it comes, be that through points deductions or their own performances, and it would be a great achievement.
In other Everton news, Arsenal could suffer as a result of the points deductions.
