Everton: Arsenal could suffer as a result of new points deduction update at Goodison Park

Alan Brazil has insisted Arsenal could suffer as a result of the second Everton points deduction when the two teams meet on the final day of the Premier League season.

It has been suggested that, if the Toffees choose to appeal their latest deduction, the process could drag on beyond the end of the season.

This would mean that Sean Dyche’s team may not know where they stand in the relegation battle and could still be desperately fighting for points just in case things change.

With Arsenal fighting for points at the opposite end of the table, looking to pip Manchester City and Liverpool to the title, the uncertainty could cause them their own issues.

Speaking live on talkSPORT [9 April, 06:27] “I’ll be honest with you, I’m not even trying to understand what’s going on. There’s the possibility of another one next season.

“That’s not fair on Arsenal either, is it? If Everton aren’t sure, and I’m not saying they wouldn’t give their all anyway, but are they going to fight extra hard just in case?”

Latest Everton points deduction update emerges at Goodison Park

The news broke on 8 April that Dyche’s team had been handed a further two points deduction as a result of their second breach of profit and sustainability rules, dragging the club further into the tightly-packed relegation battle.

With the extra two points knocked off, Everton dropped below Brentford and into 16th place, just two points ahead of Luton in the relegation zone and Nottingham Forest who are sandwiched between the pair.

Forest have also been handed a points deduction and have chosen to appeal so, much like the Toffees’ situation, they may not know the full outcome of their deduction and therefore the relegation battle until after all games have been played.

Everton boss Sean Dyche
Sean Dyche’s Everton side have faced plenty of challenges both on and off the pitch this season.

Arsenal, given the title race and their level of performance this season, would surely back themselves to win on the final day regardless, but an Everton side fighting for their lives would pose a prospect the Gunners would rather not have to face.
