Everton: John Aldridge rages at ‘corrupt’ Premier League in ‘disgraceful’ Manchester City verdict

John Aldridge has been left in a rage by the “corrupt” decision to deduct Everton two points whilst Manchester City remain unpunished for their alleged financial fair play breaches.

The Toffees were hit with their second deduction of the season on Monday (8 April) having broken the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, leaving them only two points above the relegation zone.

However, Manchester City are still to be punished for an alleged 115 charges and former Liverpool star Aldridge has suggested that no side should be hit with “disgraceful” point deductions until Pep Guardiola’s side are reprimanded.

Writing on X on Monday (8 April) he said: “It’s a disgrace how Everton Football Club today again has been treated and Forest last week! No club should be reprimanded until Man City’s case has been finalised! It’s obvious that money talks, I’d even say it’s corrupt!!

“They are a brilliant team with a brilliant management but they are sitting in their luxury homes with slippers on and smoking cigars thinking come and get us if you can. Shocking the way the best league in the world has become folks !! Disgraceful.”

Will Manchester City receive point deduction after Everton two-point penalty?

Manchester City’s punishment is a factor that has been raised repeatedly ever since the Toffees were hit with their initial point deduction as it seems that the Premier League have been inconsistent with the handling of these charges.

It has always been insisted that the two sides’ situations are incredibly different, with City’s charges being much more complicated than those at Goodison Park. That’s why any final decision is taking more time to reach.

While it does seem unfair that both Everton and Nottingham Forest at the bottom of the table are seeing their charges reprimanded and punished almost immediately, but to suggest it is corruption may be a step too far.

Hopefully, some clarity will emerge over the Premier League champions’ situation sooner rather than later to put this whole argument to bed. Until then, Everton have to focus on getting themselves out of this relegation battle.
