Everton: Kevin Campbell drops relegation verdict after what he has seen from Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Kevin Campbell believes that Everton will survive the threat of Premier League relegation this season, suggesting that Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be “the key”.

The striker has now scored twice in two games, having ended his 23-match goal drought with a vital penalty during a 1-1 draw with Newcastle United on Tuesday 2 April.

Despite earning three points against Burnley on Saturday 6 April, with Calvert-Lewin bagging the winner in a 1-0 win, the Toffees have been handed a new blow after the Premier League deducted another two points due to a second PSR breach [The Athletic].

But Campbell thinks an in-form Calvert-Lewin will help Everton to stay up.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Monday (8 April, 2:33pm), Campbell said: “Dominic Calvert-Lewin scoring again is the key. Everton have put in some really good performances but they haven’t been able to put the ball away.

“Now he’s stepping up to the plate, he’s moving in the right direction and scoring goals. I think Everton will be alright.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin could lead Everton to Premier League safety

Understandably, frustration has grown at Goodison Park over Calvert-Lewin this season, having only netted three times in the league before his two goals against Newcastle and Burnley.

However, all fans will know how much the club means to the 27-year-old, who has been fighting tooth and nail for the Evertonians since joining from Sheffield United in 2016.

Though he has only scored 66 goals in 242 total appearances in Everton colours, Sean Dyche will be hoping that the striker can prove to be the difference between Premier League and Championship football next season.

Especially after the most recent points deduction, Calvert-Lewin’s goal against the Clarets looks even more crucial, pouncing on a momentary lapse of concentration from Arijanet Muric.

Despite the victory, Everton have fallen back down to 16th place, just two points above Nottingham Forest and Luton Town, though their upcoming matches could be very important.

The Toffees still need to play Forest, Brentford, Luton and the Blades, all of whom are also battling to remain afloat in the Premier League. Everton must make sure they are one of the survivors.
