Everton: Simon Jordan slams Andros Townsend over ‘mockery’ admission in new relegation verdict
Luton Town winger Andros Townsend has been slammed by Simon Jordan live on talkSPORT for his comments surrounding Everton and their point deduction.
Former Toffee Townsend admitted that he and his Luton teammates will be happy to stay up this season, regardless of whether or not it is because of their own performances or point penalties handed out to teams around them [BBC Monday Night Club, 8 April].
While the Hatters star also admitted he felt the appeals process makes a “mockery” of the Premier League, Jordan has criticised the 32-year-old while also insisting Sean Dyche’s side will dodge the drop this season.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Tuesday (9 April, 10:15) he said: “I still think Everton will avoid relegation. When I hear observations from former Everton players like Andros Townsend who seem to have forgotten they played for that football club talking about the idea that they get a lift.
“If the only way that you can stay in the division as Luton Town is by other teams getting sanctioned for transgressions that you weren’t victims of, you weren’t part of this league.
“The sporting merit that teams can complain of legitimately that Everton have gotten is not the same for Luton, because Luton weren’t there. It will make a mockery of the league if the only way a promoted side can stay up is if sporting sanctions are put on football teams.”
Will Everton be relegated from the Premier League after latest point deduction?
While supporters won’t like Townsend’s latest comments, he is only saying what any professional footballer would likely be thinking and the Everton players would be the exact same if the shoe was on the other foot.
Why Luton should benefit from sporting sanctions for charges that occurred while they weren’t even in the division does seem bizarre, especially as the likes of Leeds and Southampton were relegated to the Championship.

Whether or not this latest punishment will be enough to send the Toffees down remains to be seen, especially after Dyche’s side picked up a valuable win against Luton Town, but the Hatters’ back will certainly now be up.
Hopefully, Dyche will be able to string a good run of form together between now and the end of the season to get Everton out of trouble and there is every chance both the Toffees and Luton dodge the drop.
