Everton: ‘Paralyzing situation’ mooted as frontrunner named in race to sign Amadou Onana

Barcelona have a “slight advantage” over Bayern Munich in the race to sign Amadou Onana from Everton this summer, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Writing on their website (10 April), the Spanish news outlet report that both the current La Liga and Bundesliga champions are keen to sign the Belgium midfielder during the summer transfer window.

But with Thomas Tuchel set to leave Bayern Munich and his replacement still unknown at the Allianz Arena, the club are unable to progress with a deal and that reportedly gives Barcelona an edge in negotiations.

Do Everton need to sell Amadou Onana?

The financial situation at Goodison Park is incredibly poor, and top clubs around Europe seem to be looking to take advantage of that this summer.

Jarrad Branthwaite is a key target for Manchester United while Onana is being looked at by several clubs, and reports suggest that a key player sale to help balance the books will be necessary by June 30th.

That means there is little the club can do if someone comes in with a big money offer for one of their top players, and Onana is undoubtedly among the top assets at the club.

Everton ace Amadou Onana
Everton could have up to £50million to spend on new midfielders after selling Amadou Onana

But should they instead opt to sell on Branthwaite earlier in the window, it should mean that Everton are in a better position to negotiate the sale of Onana for a higher fee.

The player is seemingly keen to take this opportunity and move on, which could affect talks, and ultimately it seems inevitable that Onana won’t be playing in the famous royal blue next season.
